Republican Sen. Tim Scott told WMUR Political Director Adam Sexton that if he is elected president and a bill banning abortions after 20 weeks reaches his desk, he would sign it.
“20-week ban? Definitely,” Scott said.
Scott, who is in New Hampshire one day after announcing he was launching a presidential exploratory committee, said the country has “to have a federal limit on how far we can go” with abortions.
“The big problem that we see today is that our Democrats want to make this a federal issue of having abortions into the third trimester. That is something that puts us in the company of China and North Korea. We cannot go there,” Scott said.
Scott said that currently, abortion access is a state-by-state issue after the U.S. Supreme Court released its Dobbs decision in June 2022.
“I think states have to solve that problem on their own,” Scott said.
Scott, a U.S. senator from South Carolina, is in Manchester for an event on his “Faith in America” listening tour.
