Actor William Hopper was the son of actor, singer, comedian and theatrical producer DeWolf Hopper and his fifth wife, the actress and gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. He was their only child. William is best remembered as Private Detective Paul Drake in the CBS television legal drama “Perry Mason” with Raymond Burr. The series aired from 1957-1966.[1][2]
Hopper was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Dramatic Series for his work in Perry Mason in 1959.
William was born 26 January 1915 in New York City.
He was married twice. His first wife was the actress Jane Gilbert (Susan Jane Kies), whom he married 20 January 1940 in Los Angeles, California.[3][4]
He married Jeanette Juanita Ward in 1959.
William died 6 March 1970 in Riverside, California at the age of 55[5].[6] His remains were buried march 1970 at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Los Angeles, California.[7]
