Independence Burger King robbed at gunpoint

Independence police are looking for a man who robbed a Burger King on Monday morning.

The restaurant, located in the 2300 block of Norwood Avenue, just off East 23rd Street, was full of people when the man entered at about 8:15 a.m. Monday. He showed a weapon, demanded money and then fled after getting some cash, according to police.

No injuries were reported.

Two similar robberies occurred earlier in the morning in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, where men entered a McDonald’s restaurant at 43rd Street and Rainbow Boulevard just after 6 a.m. and demanded money. No weapon was shown, but the men fled with cash.

At 6:30 a.m., Kansas City police were called to a Burger King at the 4351 Blue Parkway. One of the men reportedly held a handgun toward three employees. The men fled with about $400 in cash.

It’s unknown whether the Independence incident was related to the earlier robberies.
