The National Museum of Iceland's permanent exhibition, Making of a Nation - Heritage and History in Iceland, is intended to provide insight into the history of the Icelandic nation from the Settlement to the present day.

The exhibition will feature photographs by contemporary photographers who have exhibited their work in the Photo Gallery since its opening in 2004.

The National Museum of Iceland and the National Film Archive of Iceland have joined forces for an exhibition about the events of May and June 1944 that lead to the founding of the Republic of Iceland on June 17^th.

On the 80^th anniversary of the Republic of Iceland, in collaboration with Þingvellir National Park, the National Museum of Iceland will display valances that allegedly hung in Lögrétta (Court of Legislature) at Þingvellir in the late 18^th century.
