In 2017, the Texas Legislature had a sensational regular session and a terrific special session on the life issue. (This follows a highly successful pro-life session in 2015.)
Under the leadership of Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and Speaker Joe Straus, the Legislature passed 10 pro-life bills, doubled funding for alternatives to abortion, continued the defunding of Planned Parenthood, and passed numerous other pro-life provisions in the General Appropriations Act, the state’s two-year budget.
A summary of the pro-life accomplishments is given here.
Based on the votes on those accomplishments, including numerous amendments, we created this scorecard. The individual votes will be published in the very near future.

Note: It is a long established practice that the House Speaker, being the presiding officer, abstains from voting. Hence, Speaker Joe Straus has no score. Similarly, the Texas Constitution does not allow the Lt. Governor to vote except to break a tie. Hence, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is not included below.
