Leading vehicle brands in Indonesia 2023

In 2023, Toyota sold approximately 337 thousand vehicles. Japanese automotive manufacturers dominated the Indonesian market in that year.

Although Indonesian cities are usually congested with traffic jams in an almost continuous rush hour, not only agile scooters, but also cars are popular in Indonesia. In 2022, around 784 thousand passenger cars were sold. Even though this value indicated a significant decrease compared to the previous years, Indonesia was still the largest automotive market in the ASEAN region.

Automotive manufacturers in Indonesia

Indonesia does not have its own automotive manufacturer, which makes the country completely dependent on imports or domestic production sites operated by foreign companies. Japanese brands have best understood the needs of the Indonesian majority for large family-friendly vehicles. Not surprisingly, nine out of ten best performing car brands are Japanese, with Toyota at the top accounting for a market share of over 33 percent.
