In October 2021, Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback Tom Brady overtook Drew Brees to become the NFL's leading passer of all time. In a twist of fate, he achieved the feat against his former team, the New England Patriots. A legend of the NFL, Brady threw over 74 thousand of his total passing yards for the New England Patriots, more than twice the number of the second most successful quarterback for the Pats, Drew Bledsoe.
Legendary quarterbacks
Only four quarterbacks have thrown over 70,000 passing yards in NFL history and they are all considered all-time greats - Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Payton Manning, and Brett Favre. The four QBs also top the list of players with most passing touchdowns in NFL history, all achieving over 500 throws into the endzone. Drew Brees spent the first four years of his NFL career at the San Diego Chargers, before spending 15 seasons with the New Orleans Saints. The pinnacle of his career came in the 2009/2010 season, when he lead the Saints to Super Bowl glory against the Indianapolis Colts. This was the Saints' first and, so far, only Super Bowl win. Two franchises leads the way with six Super Bowl wins to their name - the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots.
The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is the highlight of the NFL season, pitting the best two teams from the AFC and the NFC conferences against each other in a championship game. Cementing his status as one of the greatest of all time, Tom Brady has won the Super Bowl a record six times, as well as taking home the MVP trophy on five of those occasions. This showpiece event is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar and is watched my millions across the United States every year. The 2023 edition of the Super Bowl, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs emerge victorious over the San Francisco 49ers was watched by a record 123.4 million viewers in the United States, making it the most watched Super Bowl in history.
