Internet users in South Korea 1999-2023

According to a survey conducted in 2023, the number of internet users in South Korea reached around 47.75 million, slightly up from around 47.25 million in the previous year. The number of Korean internet users has constantly increased over two decades, without showing any signs of decreasing.

Internet usage in South Korea

South Korea is well known for high speed of internet and widely established network all over the country. For these reasons, the internet user rate in South Korea has been increasing, reaching over 90 percent for the first time in 2018. Therefore, the rate of internet penetration in South Korea is relatively high compared to other countries, especially when it comes to mobile internet. This can be explained by the fact that the internet users in South Korea choose smartphones as a device to access the internet.

Online activities

As around 94 percent of people are using internet in South Korea, online activities are extensively taking place. Particularly, most internet users access the internet for leisure time activities and communication as the main purpose of internet usage. The online users communicate mostly through social media, such as instant messengers, e-mail, and social networking services.
