In 2023, there were approximately 355,000 recorded lost working days due to labor disputes between companies and unions in South Korea. Despite an increase in labor dispute cases, the number of working days lost due to strike action did not increase between 2020 and 2022.

A labor dispute refers to a situation where work is suspended for more than one working day (8 hours) due to a disagreement between a labor union and an employer regarding the determination of working conditions, and the union side begins to refuse to work.
Disputes not related to improving work conditions, such as politically motivated strikes, were not counted.
Number of days lost in labor disputes = number of striking workers during the strike × duration of the strike / length of a working day (8 hours)
