When a massive, unmanned locomotive roars out of control, the threat is more ominous than just a derailment. The train is laden with toxic chemicals, and an accident would decimate human life and cause an environmental disaster. The only hope of bringing the train to a safe stop is in the hands of a veteran engineer (Denzel Washington) and a young conductor (Chris Pine), who must risk their lives to save those in the runaway's path. Inspired by true events.

Wendy Ide Times (UK) It’s a genuinely thrilling nail-biter. Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Keith Uhlich Time Out Let’s give credit where it’s due: Scott’s on his A-game — as opposed to, ugh, Spy Game — for this occasionally exhilarating piece of popcorn cinema. Thomas C The first half of the movie is pretty good, the second half is so corny, constantly showing shots of lots of people watching it LIVE, which is just silly. This is a "watch once" movie for me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Lucas t Brilliant film, I can't say anything else without spoiling it, go watch this film. 9.1/10. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review purrfectly w I love this movie, it sucks me in every time it replays on cable. Being based on a true story is always a hard hitting draw for me and this movie fully delivers. The actors were a great choice, I love the interplay between them all even though Rosario Dawson does stand out as my close favourite. You don't get a lot to support the brief back story for the main cast but I find it ends up being just enough to make you love them all. Most importantly to my review, I think the director chose a brilliant, live footage type look to the filming where it seems like someone filmed most of it with a camcorder spliced with T.V News footage to give it that exciting edge a story like this deserves. I've always laughed at the unfortunate luck the train had heading into a severe turn where the city planners decided that sure.. this is where we should build huge explosive silos of flammable liquid - as a seriously bad movie trope lol because it's literally the worst place a city could locate supply like that. Then I found out its based on a real story sooo.. yes, can't blame Hollywood if that part was true too lol Either way, I still love this movie as a non stop action packed ride of adrenaline that was realized perfectly for film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Audience Member I love Tony Scott movies. I wish he was still here. This was based on a true story that happened in 2001 in Ohio not Pennsylvania. I love Denzel and Chris Pine in this movie. I love me some Rosario Dawson. Great score and action. This movie hits hard every time. 10/10 EPIC FANTASTIC action movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/14/24 Full Review Simon T Tony Scott was a terrible director, usually choosing duff scripts and then massively overdoing them. This is one of his worst: a stupid premise - almost a carbon copy of his equally dreary Pelham 123 remake - runaway train, tedious 'tension', neurotic camera pans, another incredibly dull phoned-in performance by Hollywood's most uninteresting actor, Denzel Washington. This will send you to sleep at 65 mph. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review alan g Great action movie. Great acting. Realistic situations. Real thrill ride.
