She said she had applied for LNP membership but had not lodged her nomination for the federal election.
"I have not decided yet but my decision will be determined on how I can best serve the Redlands," she said.
Sitting MP Andrew Laming will not recontest his seat after becoming embroiled in accusations about poor online behaviour.
Cr Williams would not give a date for the close of LNP nominations, but said it was very close.
In her third term as mayor, Cr Williams entered council in 2004 as a Capalaba councillor.
When asked earlier this month whether she would run in Bowman, she declined to comment but mentioned Redlands candidate in the 2020 state election Henry Pike.
If Cr Williams is selected, she will be up against Labor candidate Donisha Duff.
Opposition leader Anthony Albanese announced his party's choice for Bowman in April.
Cr Williams will not have to resign from her position as mayor in order to be a candidate for federal office.
Griffith University political scientist Paul Williams said the LNP would likely be looking for a middle-of-the-road female candidate for Bowman.
"A local female who's got a small business background and community work, with a family, that's the sort of profile they'll be looking for," he said.
