The background
Ciclano has been providing streaming services since 2015. Unable to find a solution on the market to manage its servers, the company’s founder Maurício Castro created a platform combining a wide range of streaming services in a single tool.
Ciclano was recognised, in the same year it was founded, as one of the most innovative on the market at the Web Summit in Dublin. Since then, its commitment to build the most comprehensive streaming platform in the world has earned it many accolades. Furthermore, the company was selected for Canada’s Start-up Visa program, where it is currently headquartered.
Originally based in Brazil, Ciclano currently has more than 3,500 customers in 32 countries, most of whom are corporations, or from the media and gaming industries.
The challenge
Ciclano.io is a platform used by companies to broadcast simultaneously on all their social media (including Instagram), replay from multiple profiles, and chat with streamers online. The solution, which provides streaming services to over 2 billion users worldwide, can be used to reach a target audience through hashtags, influencers, or geolocation.
To become the most comprehensive and efficient streaming solution on the market, Ciclano needed an auto-scaling environment that allowed it to increase its resources to accommodate its rapid growth. This totally reliable platform is currently used by more than 4,000 media outlets, and thanks to OVHcloud, it can provide its services without interruption.
In addition to robust hardware capable of supporting replay to more than 8 million end users 24 hours a day, Ciclano was looking for a provider that offered a solution capable of balancing load between different infrastructure components to ensure the stability and quality of its service. It was also looking for a provider that offered dynamic storage for instances, as well as greater flexibility.
The solution
Ciclano decided to switch from its former provider to OVHcloud because of the reliability and power of the cloud provider’s hardware, and the security of its cloud services.
“Since partnering with OVHcloud, we’ve never had to deal with any incidents that could compromise our operations.”
Maurício Castro, CEO of Ciclano
Ciclano chose Public Cloud from OVHcloud’s wide range of solutions, because of its ease of use, wide variety of instances, and the autonomy it offers, in order to benefit from ample resources when needed — at any time. Other features, like the capacity to take unlimited snapshots and re-allocate resources as required, also influenced its decision.
Through its Business Development Manager at OVHcloud, Ciclano successfully migrated its infrastructure from a dedicated environment to Public Cloud. Although the company still owns six dedicated servers, it now also benefits from a Public Cloud solution, comprising 20 virtual machines (VMs). Collectively these can handle a monthly traffic of 120 TB in total and consume an average bandwidth of around 2 Gbps; the powerful infrastructure can handle an average of 160,000 concurrent connections, with peaks of up to 480,000 connections i.e., 4.5 million simultaneous views.
In the medium term, Ciclano plans to optimise its infrastructure by incorporating other OVHcloud technologies, notably the Load Balancer.
The result
This OVHcloud’s infrastructure gives Ciclano complete peace of mind, they can now scale its services quickly and easily. The company grew by 40% in 2017, and its business volumes were expected to increase by 110% in 2018.
Moreover, this cloud environment enabled Ciclano to better manage its services and automate backups, freeing up time and resources to focus on its core business. Since the migration, the company now spends significantly less time carrying out preventive maintenance on its infrastructure.
On 6 September 2018, Ciclano launched version 3.0 of its platform. It is already working on a version for datacentres, which will enable them to offer streaming services to its customers.
“We artificial intelligence and bots technologies to create interactive voice solutions, designed to process sales leads generated during livestreams — like a call centre, but with robots.”
Maurício Castro, CEO of Ciclano
With its eyes on the North American market, the company now has a solid foundation on which to host all of its projects and continue to expand internationally.
