About the Registrar

Position and powers

The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations is an independent office holder appointed by the Minister for Indigenous Australians. 

The Registrar:

  • oversees the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) 
  • has powers similar to those of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
  • can delegate officers of the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) to take certain actions on the Registrar’s behalf.

Tricia is an Indigenous woman; Kungarakan on her grandfather’s side and Waramungu on her grandmother’s side, with family and cultural ties throughout the Northern Territory.

Tricia has a strong professional record of supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations achieve strong governance and economic success.

Tricia has worked at the senior executive level in the Australian Government’s Indigenous portfolio for some 15 years, across a number of agencies including those with independent statutory functions.

Before becoming registrar in May 2022, Tricia was Chief Operating Officer of the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), a position in which she oversaw the policy and strategy, communications and marketing, carbon and environment, and core operations. Tricia led strategic reforms to increase the ILSC’s performance in both its statutory land and water acquisitions and granting functions, as well as investments supporting Indigenous groups to manage their land and water assets.

Tricia has enjoyed a 25-year career working in senior management in state and Commonwealth government Indigenous affairs, including the areas of Indigenous women’s, families, housing, community, employment, education and child safety.
