Vasily Yakusha was a Belarussian rower who competed for the Soviet Union at the 1980 and 1988 Olympics, winning a silver medal in single sculls in 1980 and a bronze medal in double sculls in 1988. He had to miss the 1984 Olympics because of the Eastern Bloc boycott but won the title that year at the Friendship Games, held by those countries as a replacement for Olympic participation.
Yakusha won Soviet titles in single sculls in 1980-86 and 1988, in double sculls in 1988, and quadruple sculls in 1980 and 1987. At the World Championships he won a silver in singles in 1982 and a bronze in 1986, and was fourth in 1983 and 1985. Yakusha was also runner-up at the 1987 Henley Royal Regatta in the Diamond Challenge Cup for single scullers.
