Rachel Cericola

I’m a writer at Wirecutter covering smart devices for the home.

What I Cover

I write about everything from smart lighting and home security to Wi-Fi cameras and smart bird feeders. I’ve also covered ice cream sandwiches, robot vacuums, and snoring.

My Background

I’ve been writing about smart-home topics for 25 years, and I’ve been doing so for Wirecutter since 2016.

Prior to joining Wirecutter, I was a freelance writer for 11 years, mainly covering smart-home and other tech topics, but I also wrote celebrity interviews and articles about parenting, TV and movies, food, and other lifestyle subjects. My byline has appeared in The New York Times, Wired, USA Today, and Men’s Health, among others. Before becoming a freelancer, I spent seven years covering smart-home technology for print and digital publications, holding positions ranging from staff writer to editor-in-chief.

I grew up in Delaware and graduated from the University of Delaware. I currently live in Massachusetts with my family, which includes one semi-large orange rescue cat.

Journalistic Ethics

As a Wirecutter journalist, I share the values and adhere to the standards of integrity outlined in our editorial standards. In accordance with Wirecutter’s ethics policy, I never keep any products that I have tested for Wirecutter (except for long-term testing) and do not accept any products that aren’t meant for testing. I don’t accept gifts, money, or favors from a person, company, or any entity that might figure into our news coverage.
