Kevin Loughery was dismissed yesterday after three and a half years as head coach of the Miami Heat, just one day after the team's new owners took over.

Assistant Coach Alvin Gentry replaced Loughery on a day the owners, the Arison family, also hired Dave Wohl as executive vice president of basketball operations.

Gentry got his first victory as Miami's coach and the Heat got 20 points from Billy Owens to beat the visiting Milwaukee Bucks, 112-99, last night.

Wohl told Loughery he was out after yesterday's practice. Loughery was offered a position as vice president for player personnel. It was not immediately known whether Loughery, 54, would stay. Magic 111, Pacers 92

At Orlando, Fla., Dennis Scott came off the bench to make 4 of Orlando's 7 fourth-quarter 3-pointers and finish with 18 points in the Magic's rout of Indiana. Bullets 99, Timberwolves 96

In Minneapolis, Calbert Cheaney scored 9 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as Washington rallied after blowing a 20-point first-half lead to beat Minnesota. Rockets 124, Clippers 104

Hakeem Olajuwon scored 26 points and Houston, which shortly before game time announced a trade for Clyde Drexler, used a patchwork lineup to beat Los Angeles.

Houston suited up just nine players. Seven of them reached double figures, including Scott Brooks, who had a career-high 23 points. Spurs 112, Jazz 96

David Robinson scored 29 points to lead host San Antonio Spurs to victory over Utah. San Antonio hit four 3-pointers in the final nine minutes of the game. Mavericks 95, Trail Blazers 90

Jamal Mashburn socred 27 points and Jim Jackson added 18 as Dallas escaped with a victory over visiting Portland. Rod Strickland's 25 points andClifford Robinson's 17 paced the Blazers. Hawks 99, Nuggets 88

Steve Smith scored 30 points and Mookie Blaylock had 19, leading visiting Atlanta to its third straight victory, a decision over fading Denver.
