Location: University Aula, Karl Johans gate, Oslo
11 December, 10:00 - 12:00

At this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Forum, three former Nobel Peace Prize laureates and leading experts on global nuclear politics will discuss strategies to mitigate the risk of nuclear war and advance toward nuclear disarmament. We will also hear powerful testimonies from Hibakusha, the survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

No nuclear weapon has been used in war in nearly 80 years. But as pointed out by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, when announcing the Nobel Peace Prize 2024 to the Japanese Hibakusha organisation Nihon Hidankyo: “The nuclear powers are modernizing and upgrading their arsenals; new countries appear to be preparing to acquire nuclear weapons. Threats are being made to use nuclear weapons in ongoing warfare. At this moment in human history, it is worth reminding ourselves what nuclear weapons are: the most destructive weapons the world has ever seen".
