A former US Marine, Lee Harvey Oswald spent time in Russia and took a Russian bride in 1961. In August 1963, he was known to have distributed leaflets in New Orleans for the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, a pro-Castro organization. Months later he assassinated John F. Kennedy and murdered Officer J. D. Tippit in an incidental encounter. Oswald himself was assassinated by nightclub owner Jack Ruby at Dallas Police headquarters on live television.
