On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives in the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history. More than 700 of those victims had ties to New Jersey. Most perished at the World Trade Center. Others were on hijacked planes. At least four worked at the Pentagon.
On each anniversary, the names of all the victims are read aloud at a ceremony at Ground Zero, a solemn reminder of the magnitude of loss on that tragic day. Their memory is held close by families and friends and their legacy continues through the countless children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews born in the years since they have been gone.
With this week’s 20th anniversary, NJ Advance Media again presents a tribute in photos to 734 victims who lived in New Jersey or had significant ties to the Garden State.
