To Be Backup Quarterback Bills Sign Sam Wyche ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (UPI) Seven-year veteran quarterback Sam Wyche Tuesday signed a contract with the National Football League Buffalo Bills and will serve as the backup signal caller for the remainder of the 1976 season. Wyche, 31, 6-4, 218 pounds, joined the Bills Tuesday and will probably be in uniform next Sunday when Buffalo faces the New York Jets. Three-year veteran Gary Marangi has moved up to the starting quarterback job for the Bills following a season-ending injury to Joe Ferguson. Ferguson was injured in last Sunday's 26-22 loss to the New England Patriots after he was tackled by New England linebacker Steve Zabel. Ferguson was resting Tuesday at Buffalo's Mercy Hospital, suffering from four fractured traverse processes on the left side of his lower back. Traverse processes are small bones which connect to the vertebrae.
