With December on the horizon, it's official ski holiday season. Fortunately there’s a spot in Italy - ideal for beginners - where a lift pass sets you back just £23.

Sestriere sits on the Italy and French border in North-West Italy, and has been dubbed the best value for money ski resort by lonelyplanet. It adds that there’s a common misconception that good valued ski resorts are found in remote parts of the globe.

This resort is found in Italy’s Via Lattea - a ski area that holds eight interconnected ski resorts in the Piedmont region. It also has 248 miles of slopes, some of which connect to France’s Montgenèvre ski resort.

And it's ideal for beginners. You can learn to sky at the The Sestriere ski which they say offers "a high standard of instruction from beginner through to race training". Sestriere offers two adult ski lesson packages: a 5-day course for €210 and a 3-day course for €165, both starting on Mondays. Lessons run from 10am for 2 hours 50 minutes, taught by internationally qualified instructors, with the option of private lessons if group minimums aren't met.

Sestriere’s peak is 9186 feet, meaning it’s wonderfully snow-sure. The resort recently snapped-up 117 new snowmakers, so in the unlikely event there’s no snow, you can still slide around the slopes.

Better yet, it’s famous for its Italian cuisine, and the fabulous slope-side restaurants offer brilliant value for money. Ristorante Pizzeria Da Costa sells amazing pizza at a low price. It’s in fact so delicious that one happy customer took to Google to rave about it.

They said: “We were a party of 16, mostly teenagers, and we were made very welcome. The pizzas were great, they even made me a Carbonara for my last night in Italy - delicious and off menu.

“The desserts were heavenly, despite being out of Tiramisu, the creme caramel was divine - I am told- and the panacotta sublime. Recommended!! Absolutely recommended!”
