Shockingly well made. Tense and intense, “The Agency” gives off “MI-5” and “Sleeper Cell” vibes

Paramount+ and Showtime's "The Agency" doesn't have the spy action that fans of "Mission: Impossible" or James Bond may expect, but I found the two episodes sent to press consistently riveting due to the sharp dialogue, incredible ensemble, and tight filmmaking.

This was way, way, way better than I expected. I've only gotten to the third episode, by wow, if you're into spy stuff, this is the series for you. Top-notch acting with characters who actually behave in credible ways. It's all about the tension between "HQ" and spies in the field, blended with Fassbender's relationship with a woman who may, or may not, be playing him. Well-developed characters. Highly-cinematic and highly-recommended. WEPS. The first episode is a little slow, so be patient...

First off, amazing cast. Second, the plot has my attention. Could the show/ season end up being a disappointment? Sure. But i'm willing to bet that it won't be.

Only four of the season’s 10 episodes were made available to critics, so this comes with a heavy caveat — a story can start out well enough and then struggle to live up to its ambitions — but I like what I’ve seen so far, with its world of operatives and handlers, of covert glances and back-channel subterfuge, laid out with a seductive urgency that gives a deceptively graceful quality to all this unseemly work.

Like Slow Horses, it is also set in London. But it is an incurious, touristy version of London that lacks authenticity. And unlike in Slow Horses, nobody here has any discernible personality. This goes double for Fassbender’s character.

“The Agency” [is] the one thing a spy show should never be: boring. It’s a hurdle the show never clears through its opening stretch and makes it a tough one to recommend on any level (except, perhaps, as a way into the better French version).

It’s really really good thriller show. Michael Fassbender did phenomenal including Richard Gere and Jeffrey Wright.

This show has more tension than others and isn't as slow as others. It's multiple story lines are a bit confusing but we'll have to see if they work out logically. Characters are interesting enough but diverse (in the perception sense). All in all we'd say: "give a chance and it may turn out to be good. In the meantime it is interesting."

Solid spy thriller with a stellar cast. I know this kind of thing has been done before, and the plot doesn't seem overly original, but everyone and everything is operating at peak levels so it makes it enjoyable.

Some of this show is good, but it kinda felt like, a good script wrote by smart people, gor re-wrote and forcing something stupid into it. Yah, a very good agent heard that certain girl is magically in the same city half world away and did not suspect anything.

Episode 1 did not hold my interest and was anything but thrilling. Seemed more like an interracial love story rather than an espionage tv show.
