Gualtiero Schiaffino, known as Skiaffino, came from a family of marines and broke off his studies to work in the advertising field. He had his first political and satirical cartoons published in 1968 in L'Unità, the magazine for the Italian communist party. A couple of years later, he started he satirical comic series 'I Santincielo' in the Roman daily Paese sera, where he commented upon society. Skiaffino made a comic section for Il Lavoro called 'La Bancarella', and for Secretissimo he started the comic series 'I Diavoli'. He made cartoons for Undercomics (1973), Eureka (1974), La gazzetta di Parma, Urania, and I gialli Rizzoli. The publishing house Darda published the books 'La Presa per il Culto' (1975) and 'Lei non sa chi sono Dio' (1976). In the 1990s he began Andersen, a magazine specialized in children's literature.
