THE death occurred at her home yesterday evening of Mrs. Elaine MacSharry (nee Neilan), wife of former EU Commissioner and Tánaiste, Ray MacSharry. Mrs. MacSharry died after a short illness and is survived by her husband, Ray; and children, Heather Ann, Helen, Lisa, Raymond, Brian and Marc; sisters, Ann and Bridget; brothers, John, William and Gerard.

A qualified nurse, she married Ray MacSharry in 1960.
Confidante
Throughout her husband’s political career, the late Mrs. MacSharry was a constant support and confidante and played a major role in helping with her husband’s constituency work, while he was in the Dáil and later in Europe.
A full-time mother and housewife, she was a kind and generous woman, who was held in high esteem by all who encountered her.
Her remains will be reposing at her home today from 2.00pm until 7.00pm. Mass of the Resurrection at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday at 12 noon. Burial immediately afterwards at Sligo Cemetery.
