Diane Abbott goes to Ghana

Britain's first woman black member of the House of Commons, Miss Diane Abbot, visits Ghana from Sunday 1st August through to Monday 10th August as the head of a top level delegation of British MPs and members of the upper house - House of Lords. They will be guest of the Ghana branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

Miss Abbott has deep connections to Ghana. She was once married to London based Ghanaian architect David Ayensu-Thompson with whom they have a seven-year-old son - James Kojo Ayensu-Thompson.

Speaking to GRi, the Labour MP for Stoke Newington said, " I am very pleased to be visiting Ghana. I have strong family connections here. This is a fact-finding mission. And my colleagues and I, want the people of Ghana to know the close and continuing interest of the British Parliament in the welfare and development of their country".
