Olympic Gold Medalist. He served as the team captain of the Soviet Union national team at the center position that competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics. At these Olympics, he and the team distinguished themselves that year by receiving the Olympic gold medal in basketball. He also competed with the Soviet team again at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where they won the bronze medal. In his 11-year career starting in 1970, he competed at several other completions and receiving gold, silver, and bronze medals.
