Nevada Governor. He was Governor of Nevada from 1959 to 1967. He is credited with taking the first steps toward “cleaning up” the state’s gaming industry, by taking the lead in the establishment of the Nevada Gaming Commission and the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The Democrat also partnered with California governor Pat Brown to protect Lake Tahoe from over development. After losing his bid for a third term, the native of Twin Falls, Idaho moved to Las Vegas where he became a successful lawyer.
