Ralph, a physicist and cosmologist, worked for the General Electric Research and Development Center and later was a distinguished research professor of astronomy and physics at Union College in Schenectady, simultaneously serving as director of the Dudley Observatory. He was a recipient of the National Medal of Science Award. He is survived by his son, Victor; daughter, Harriet Lebetkin; and 2 grandchildren.
