A very above-par and quite unknown “horror” thing. I especially liked the music, which fit perfectly. A decent idea, although those who have seen The Boy or Housebound will probably see through it in the first few minutes. That said, it's still a pretty good film that holds the tension and atmosphere and has an intense finale that has you rooting for the family with all your heart. The only things I didn't like were that the bad guy was on screen a bit too much, losing his creepiness, and his zombie-style screaming noises didn't work at all, but that can be forgiven ()
I caught up on a 4 year old horror film that I probably ignored at the time, but the result is a digestible one-off that has nothing to offend. The film follows the classic template, at least initially, where a family moves into a new apartment where someone once died and now it's supposedly haunted. Fortunately, this is not a ghost story and genre-wise I would probably classify it as a Home Invasion. It stars the young Starlight from The Boys, a woman who is more than good to look at, the villain is also cool, there's plenty of suspense and an unconventional ending. But it lacked gore for a higher rating. Those who haven't seen it might give the film a chance. Story***, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence**, Entertainment****, Music***, Visual***, Atmosphere***, Suspense****. 6.5/10. ()
Still the same story, the same template, but it can also be nicely spoiled and bore the viewer, or it can succeed for the x-th time and the viewer will have a good time and be scared, as it happened in my case with Within. Slow start, tension build-up, and a finale that's a bit too fast, but still excellent. ()
Within is not a great horror movie, it's not a stunning horror movie, but it is a good horror movie. It's a horror film that can scare you, but above all there's an important atmosphere that you can cut, coupled with the fact that there are some really good scenes. For example, watching what was happening behind me in the reflection on the kitchen counter was really creepy to me. ()
