Second Chance shelter is a refuge for several women and children who’ve escaped violence in their families. Its devoted director, Eva Lustigová, often neglects her own family because of the work. With her colleagues, they try to help the shelter's residents get back on their feet. But many women have never had a functional family and co-habitation won't be easy even within the shelter's walls. (Finále Plzeň)

Englisch Secret Lives are definitely the best show I have ever seen come out of Slovakia. The topic literally has a lot to draw on, but the execution is sort of average and plain. As life itself often is. But that is not me saying that everything about this is bad, definitely not, it only took me a while to get used to the characters. I guess it’s the same in real life. So, I think that the greatest asset of this show is at the same time its main disadvantage. And that’s something that doesn’t happen to me with TV shows that often… ()

Englisch Ladies and gentlemen, my half Slovak heart is trembling with joy, because Slovak Television has filmed one of the best series of the last five years. The series set in a shelter home is probably not a smash hit that will attract millions of viewers to the screens, but it will resonate more with viewers who are bored, angry, disappointed, or desperate with the offerings of commercial television. The script is very carefully crafted, gradually serving the viewer important milestones in the lives of individual characters without resorting to awkward clichés or superficiality. Throughout the series, your heart will ache for the sad fates, essentially covering almost all sociopathological phenomena in society. As a result, I have grown fond of a number of characters and rooted for them to snatch a piece of that life happiness. A great discovery for me is Gabriela Marcinková, besides being very attractive, she can act excellently and masterfully handled one of the main characters. Sympathetic Peter Kočiš surprised me greatly, I couldn't imagine him in the role of such a repellent villain, but he did a great job. And we cannot overlook the absolutely outstanding and fitting theme song by Sima Martausová. I have nothing to criticize about the series, so it gets full marks and a place in my top ten favorites. From a male perspective, I would just like to note that in the opening credits, there are only women, which is fine, but at least Ondřej Daniš and both Vladimírs had their irreplaceable place in the series and it would suit them in the credits as well. But that's not even a complaint, just a minor sigh. ()
