Strengthening linkages between small actors and buyers in
the Roots and Tubers sector in Africa

The African Roots and Tubers project aims to improve the livelihoods of small producers engaged in the roots and tubers value chains in selected African ACP countries through the promotion of linkages to domestic and regional markets. 

African ACP countries where the project is being implemented include Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Malawi, Uganda and Rwanda.The project is funded with support from the European Union and will take place through 2018.

Policy and Institutional Support
The project involves strengthening enabling policies and institutions to implement roots and tubers sector strategies and to enhance intra-regional trade.

Financial Services
The project increases access to inclusive financial instruments through capacity building and information exchange between financial service providers and producer groups and SMEs.

 

Inclusive Business Models
The project develops inclusive business models throughout root and tuber value chains to increase the number and value of business transactions among small actors and buyers. 

Climate Risk Management 
The project increases access to climate risk management tools through improved climate information services and analysis of the impact of climate variability on the roots and tubers sector and price fluctuations.


Sustainable market-led production intensification
The project contributes to sustainably increasing market-led production while improving access to the most suitable varieties and high quality disease-free planting material.
