Luka Modric: Croatia star wins World Cup Golden Ball ahead of Eden Hazard
LUKA MODRIC has won the World Cup Golden Ball for the best player in the tournament.
In the World Cup final, Modric’s Croatia were beaten 4-2 by France but throughout the tournament outlined his status as one of the world’s best midfielders after a series of excellent performances.
Former England captain Alan Shearer said: “Luka Modric played the game at his pace and he controlled games. He really is a special footballer.”
Eden Hazard finished second while France’s Antoine Griezmann was third.
England’s Harry Kane won the Golden Boot Award after scoring six goals in the tournament.

Ex-England striker Gary Lineker said: “I'm absolutely thrilled. Congratulations Harry Kane! I've been short of company in that department. It's been a long time coming.”
Kylian Mbappe won the Young Player Award and Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Glove.
Courtois wrote on Twitter: “One of the biggest individual honors you can get as a goalkeeper! So proud of this!”
Spain won FIFA’s Fair Play Trophy.
