Dan Merica is a CNN National Political Reporter based in Washington, D.C.

Since joining the network in 2011, Merica has covered all aspects of politics in Washington with a keen eye on how voters across the country feel about their elected officials. This included extensive reporting on the 2020 election, the 2018 midterms and President Donald Trump’s first year in office. Before covering the White House, Merica was CNN’s embedded reporter on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. Merica began covering Clinton in 2014 and reported on her historic fight for the Democratic nomination.

Before covering Clinton, Merica covered religion for CNN, writing in depth about faith and politics, including the rise of nonbelievers in the United States and the intersection of faith in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Merica is a proud Nevadan and graduated from Bentley University with a degree in global studies and American University with a master’s in journalism and public affairs. He currently lives in Washington with his wife and enjoys Washington Nationals baseball and just about anything that gets him outdoors.
