The North East is bracing itself for freezing temperatures with snow and sleet expected to hit the region this week.

Now a Met Office weather map has shown where and how much snow is expected to fall on Monday and Tuesday. A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place from 7pm on Monday to 10am on Tuesday.

People are being urged to be careful on the roads and to expect possible disruption on public transport. The Met office says: "There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected. A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable.

"There is a slight chance that bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times. There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel."

Here is a look at the North East places that are expected to see snow, how much and when, according to the Met Office map. The information was correct at the time of writing.
