Lebanese-American poet and essayist Etel Adnan has passed away at the age of 96.
Adnan was locally most well known for her novel Sitt Marie Rose, which tells the story of Marie Rose Boulos and was set in the 1975-1990 Lebanese Civil War. Her paintings also gained a lot of popularity, with her latest exhibition having been at The Guggenheim.
Her works were published in English, Arabic, French, and many other languages. Her contributions to art and poetry will always be remembered. She is survived by her partner, the artist Simone Fattal.
“Morality is violence. An invisible violence at first. Love is a supreme violence, hidden deep in the darkness of our atoms.” – Sitt Marie Rose
May her soul Rest In Peace.
