A school where inspectors criticised leadership, management and quality of teaching has been placed in special measures.
Ofsted ruled Reading Girls' School in Berkshire was inadequate following an inspection in December.
The report, external found too little teaching took account of the different abilities of pupils and disadvantaged children made poor progress.
The school said it was disappointed but promised to improve results.
'Hard work'
The Ofsted report also found pupils' personal development, behaviour and welfare required improvement, and attendance levels were too low.
Head teacher Vivienne Angus said despite the "hard work" ahead, the school would "improve results and continue to build strong positive futures for all students".
She said council officers were already working with the school to address the issues highlighted by inspectors.
The school in Northumberland Avenue underwent redevelopment in November.
