2021 1996 Merv McIntosh Perth The dominant big man in WA football and at state level immediately after World War II, after his career was heavily impacted by active service. A triple Sandover medallist and seven-time club best and fairest, his best-on-ground effort in his farewell game won Perth its first flag in 48 years in the 1955 Grand Final. Playing career: 1939-41 and 1946-55, Games: 217. Goals: 79.

One of the first coaches to demand his players be at the peak of physical condition.
