Boarding Fees
Haberdashers’ Adams is one of just 30 state boarding schools in the UK, offering free education and affordable boarding. We are one of an even smaller number of selective state boarding schools which means we offer an excellent alternative to the independent sector. State boarding fees are on average less than a third of those payable at independent schools and are exempt from VAT.
As a state school all pupils, including boarders, must hold a UK passport or have leave to remain in the UK to be eligible for admission. All boarders from overseas must also have a guardian in the UK.
As a state school we are unable to offer sibling discounts, scholarships or bursaries.
Boarding Fees 2024-25
Year 7-11 £4,851 per term; £14,553 per year
Sixth Form £5,318 per term; £15,954 per year
Regular Flexi Boarding in Sixth Form £65/ night
Occasional Boarding £75/ night
Flexi boarding is the weekly commitment to a set number of nights, for example every Monday and Tuesday night.
Occasional boarding is for exceptional circumstances only and must be discussed in advance with the school. We can only provide occasional boarding if we have space in the appropriate boarding house.
The boarding fees are subject to an annual review in February. Please note an additional one-off charge will apply to pupils joining us from overseas.
Deposit
After the offer of a boarding place is made, we ask parents to complete and return an acceptance form along with a deposit which will be refunded in full at the end of the boarding contract. If the child is withdrawn by parents after a place has been accepted, the deposit will be forfeited.
Payment Options
We offer the following options for the payment of boarding fees:
- Full annual fee in advance before 1st September.
- Termly in advance – payment to be received before the first day of each term.
- 10 equal instalments by Standing Order – the first payment to be received by 1st September and the final payment by 1st June.
Childcare Vouchers
Working parents may be able to pay part of the boarding fees using childcare vouchers. Further information is available here

Tax Credits
Eligible parents may be able to claim tax credits in respect of boarding fees. Further information is available here

Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA)
If you are in the Armed Forces and qualify for Continuity of Education Allowance, you will only pay 8% of the boarding fees. The education is free.
CEA is available to help Service personnel achieve continuity of education for their children that would otherwise be denied in the maintained school sector if their children accompanied them on frequent assignments both at home and overseas.
