Gilles de Corbeil (XIIth century) reports the strange medical case of the " Salernitan brother " , a monster born together with a normal child. This disorder is said to be typical of Salernitan women. The phenomenon which is still commented on by physicians in the following centuries is rather difficult to explain for it seems to depend on both scholarly medicine and popular beliefs.

This article discusses the unique practice of many philosophers in classical India to write on several philosophical and religious systems, each time adopting a sympathetic point of view for a different tradition. The article describes the development of this phenomenon in the context of interreligious debates between Buddhists, Jains, and Brahmins in the course of three distinct historical periods, transitioning from pluralism about views to pluralism about philosophical systems and culminating in the ideal of sarva-tantra-sva-tantra, a polyvocal philosopher and a polymath. Contrary to such approaches as nihilism, agnosticism, skepticism, and dogmatism, pluralism about views and systems was an attempt to justify the acceptance of several competing schools of thought. The article demonstrates that varieties of pluralism about views and systems played a role in forming and broadening philosophical alliances to defeat religious rivals, but also enhanced the scholarly reputation of erudite thinkers capable of “proving and refuting any system by will.”

Number of services that banks offer customers, has been increased significantly in recent years. There is a variety of services available through the different channels like internet bank, mobile bank, telephone bank, ATM and so forth. The need to personalize these services for customers is felt more than before since people are busier than ever and have a limited time to do their daily tasks. In addition, in some banking channels like telephone bank, giving a service in a high speed manner is very important since the user has to listen to a variety of menu items and select one he want. Having a personal bank for each customer is an interesting issue for customers that can save their time doing banking tasks and it will improve customer satisfaction. In this paper, we present an architecture for implementation of this service personalization in a multi-channel environment with the help of a powerful approach called memory-based collaborative filtering. It has the ability to process the information coming from different banking channels according to the recent services that a customer has previously used and services that other customers have used most frequently.
In this chapter I want to explore research strategies for a Foucauldian approach to narratives. In doing this I am taking the perspectives of the previous chapter into the field of feminist research. Here, narrative is understood through the structures and forces of discourse, power and history that are the focus of the work of Michel Foucault. In this context I shall be looking back into the ways I have deployed genealogical strategies as research tools that have opened up analytical paths in the reading of women's auto/biographical narratives .
