The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia and a nationally ranked four-year public liberal arts college located in the rural, scenic mountains of southwestern Virginia, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Art History/Studio Artist position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.  The teaching load for this position is four courses per semester.  Primary job responsibilities include teaching Art History, 2D Design, Drawing and Painting to art majors and non-majors as well as student advising, departmental and institutional service, and continuing scholarly or creative activity.

Minimum qualifications include a terminal degree in either Studio Art or Art History, and qualifications to teach in both areas.  Preference will be given to candidates with a record of excellent teaching and mentoring at the baccalaureate level; strong communication skills; working with first generation college students; and commitment to a generalist, liberal arts based major program that includes an emphasis on broad education, capable writing, and high impact practices.
