H.E. Zinash Tayachew Bere
First Lady, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
First Lady Zinash Tayachew was born on January 13, 1978, in the historic and royal city of Gondar, Ethiopia. Upon graduation from Fasiledes Secondary School in Gondar, Zinash Tayachew joined military service where she would meet her future husband, the current Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali. Prior to her role as the First Lady, Zinash Tayachew lived in exile with their three daughters in Denver, Colorado.
As the First Lady, Zinash Tayachew pledged to work with full commitment to alleviating difficulties that children are facing in education and providing access for all school-aged children. She foresees contributing to quality education by identifying the challenges of the sector. Her main initiatives as First Lady are nutrition, mental health, women’s economic empowerment and protection of the most vulnerable. The First Lady is committed to delivering successfully on her initiatives through local professional support in each endeavour.
Apart from these initiatives, First Lady Zinash Tayachew works with compassion with the disabled and special needs community through the donation of assistive devices and provision of support for their needs. She is committed to building high schools in remote areas where only elementary schools exist at the moment. Through her charity work, First Lady Zinash has become a hope for so many.
The First Lady and the Prime Minister have three daughters, Deborah, Rakeb, and Amen. The couple adopted their 15 days old son Million in the month of August 2018.
