HOME GET TICKETS PRE-SHOW PIE & MASH REVIEWS PRESS & MEDIA CAST CREATIVE & TEAM FAQs LOCATION LOTTERY SHOP

In 2014, Tooting Arts Club set about staging Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s iconic musical thriller SWEENEY TODD in Harrington’s–London’s oldest working pie and mash shop. Now, transported all the way from South London, we are delighted that Harrington’s has found its New York home within the walls of the Barrow Street Theatre.

TICKETS ON SALE THRU FEBRUARY 25TH
Please scroll down and read the following info - it’s all here to help you! -
before clicking on the BUY TICKETS link below.

Our shop’s pie maker is former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses. Most, but not all, seating locations within the shop include the option to buy tickets that include pre-show pie and mash cooked fresh daily by Bill. For an additional $22.50 on top of the price of your ticket, you will get one pie – meat (chicken) or veg, a generous helping of mashed potato with an optional parsley sauce known as “liquor,”, and a beer, glass of wine, or other non-alcholic drink. Pie and mash may only be purchased in advance. To be clear, due to space constraints, pre-show pie and mash is not available for purchase with every seat location.

Pie and mash is served beginning 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to each curtain, and those who have purchased it may arrive any time after that until 30 minutes before curtain (at which point the last pie is served). All tables must be cleared 15 minutes later for performer safety. We encourage you to arrive on the early side so your meal is not rushed.

If you’re not dining with us, you’re welcome to enter the shop beginning 15 minutes prior to show time. Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks may be purchased from the bar in the lobby before each show and during intermission. No outside food or drinks are permitted.

Running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes including one twenty minute intermission.

Instead of a formal theater setting, our production of SWEENEY TODD is set inside a 360-degree re-creation of Harrington’s. While there is no formal audience participation, the four center tables (B/C/D/E) are particularly close to the action, which primarily takes place on and around the shop’s service counter and these tables. All banquettes have upholstered seats, and except for Row J (Downstairs) and Rows AA and BB (Upstairs), are situated at counters or tables.

At the point of purchasing your tickets, you will be presented with a seating diagram. In order to familiarize yourself with the shop layout in advance, a diagram can be viewed now by clicking ‘View Full Seating Chart’ to the right of this page. The immersive nature of the show means that if you’re sitting at any of the tables or counters down in front, the action may be happening all around you. You may have to twist or turn your head from time to time. If you’d prefer to watch the show facing straight ahead, we suggest the counters in Rows G or H.

Lower price seats are available in our “Twisting View” and “Partial View” locations. Please visit the “Twisting View and Partial View Locations” section of the FAQ page on our website for more information on these locations.

You will receive an email confirmation from OvationTix immediately after purchasing tickets including your seating location(s). Physical tickets will only be printed at the Barrow Street Theatre box office, and will be available for pickup beginning 2 hours prior to the performance you are attending. All guests will be required to show photo ID that matches the name on the ticket order. Please understand this is for your protection: ticket fraud and third party re-selling, often at extremely higher (and unlawful) prices, has become a pervasive problem in our industry.

SEATING CHART

Instead of a formal theater setting, our production of SWEENEY TODD is set inside a 360-degree replica environment of Harrington’s. While there is no formal audience participation, the four center tables are very close to the action. All seats are at counters or tables, except for a few in the Downstairs section of the shop.

The action of the performance takes place Downstairs on and around the shop’s service counter and four nearby tables. While there is no formal audience participation, certain seats in the shop—particularly those at the four tables—are very close to the action.

The Downstairs of the shop is fully ADA compliant. As Greenwich House is an early 1900s building, however, a ramp is required for wheelchairs to access the lobby and Downstairs of the shop from the street. Any guest with mobility issues should purchase tickets Downstairs. Please contact the box office after booking to let us know about any access requirements by calling 212-243-6262 or emailing boxoffice@sweeneytoddnyc.com.

“A TREAT FOR ALL OF THE SENSES, EVEN TASTE!”

THE TRADITION OF PIE AND MASH

Good old-fashioned “pie and mash” has been a London food tradition since the days of Queen Victoria. A small meat pie and a generous helping of mashed potato with an optional addition of the steaming parsley sauce known as “liquor,” pie and mash became the staple dish for many hungry families and workers alike. Affordable, filling and tasty–it was often the only hot meal one might eat in a day.

LONDON TO NEW YORK CITY

In 2014, Tooting Arts Club staged SWEENEY TODD in Harrington’s–London’s oldest working pie and mash shop. Steeped in history and atmosphere, this quintessential Victorian pie shop proved to be the perfect chamber of horrors for this iconic Gothic tale. Before each show, audience members were welcomed to arrive early to Harrington’s for their very own meal of pie and mash.

We will continue this pre-show tradition with our guests at the Barrow Street Theatre and we’re delighted that former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses has taken on the role as our official pie maker.

“Whatever pie you like, he will make it, and it will be the best pie you have ever eaten.”
– President Barack Obama

Since departing the White House in 2014, Bill “The Crustmaster” Yosses – as nicknamed by President Obama – has operated his own pie company, The Perfect Pie, in New York City. While working from an original recipe – including meat (chicken) and veg options – Bill serves fresh pie and mash beginning 1 hour and 15 minutes before each performance. Pie and mash – plus a beer, glass of wine, ginger ale, or water – may be purchased (in advance only) with tickets for $22.50.

One dish brimming with history, an authentic slice of Victorian London if there ever was one–“God that’s good!“

MENU

Our pre-show pie & mash menu is below; included in each item is a range of the veggies that Chef Yosses may select from, depending on what is in season or looking particularly delicious from our purveyors. The exact menu for each week will be posted at the box office. A full list of possible ingredients can be viewed on our FAQ page. If you have a particular food allergy you’re concerned about, please email us at info@sweeneytoddnyc.com.

Buying Tickets

What is the maximum number of tickets that can be purchased within one order?

The maximum number of tickets that can be purchased within one order is 4.

Why can’t I print out or pick up my tickets ahead of time?

All guests will receive an email confirmation from OvationTix immediately after purchasing tickets, including seating location(s).

Are there group sales?

We are happy to accommodate your group or make arrangements to create a special event. Please contact Kendra Dolton at Group Sales Box Office, kdolton@broadway.com or 212.307.2171 to inquire about special packages, or to create a memorable theater party.  Alternately, call the Barrow Street Box Office at 212-243-6262.

Are there refunds and/or exchanges?

All purchases are final; we do not offer any refunds or exchanges.

If I don’t buy pie and mash with my ticket, can I still purchase it when I arrive at the theater? What about drinks?

Pie and mash may only be purchased in advance with tickets. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks may be purchased a la carte from The Barrow Street Theatre lobby bar before each show and during intermission, and may be taken into the shop. No outside food or drinks are permitted.

Is there a Lottery for Sweeney Todd?

Yes! We provide a lottery through TodayTix. How to participate:

1. Download the TodayTix app on your smartphone

2. Open the Sweeney Todd page to learn more information.

Is there wait-list for sold out performances?

Patrons will be sold full price tickets in the order of the wait list if tickets go unused or are returned to the box office. You must be present to purchase. We do our best to squeeze folks into the shop!

Is there a student rush?

Seating Locations

What’s the deal with Twisting View seats?

Twisting View seats are located in the center of the action of the production. However, because we mimic the seating of an actual pie shop, these seats orient audience members away from the optimal view, and one must reposition oneself to see much of the staging. We have designed our banquette benches to comfortably accommodate this shift.

Some audience members love the experience of being in the middle of the action, which can be more thrilling, especially for the lower price. But other audience members don’t like the discomfort of having to frequently turn one’s view or position.

What’s the deal with Partial View seats?

Partial View seating locations are in the second row (BB) of our Upstairs and have visual obstructions during certain moments of the performance.

As of July, 2017, we have improved the visibility of the sightlines and improved audience experience in this section by removing a pie shop shelf in the front row of the Upstairs.  Having done so, this creates better sightlines for viewers in both rows of the Upstairs.  However, it still does have some visual obstructions.  This change for better sightlines does result in an inability to purchase pie and mash in the Upstairs section.

BARROW STREET THEATRE
27 BARROW STREET between 7th Ave & West 4th St
NEW YORK, NY 10014

ABOUT BARROW THEATRE

The BARROW STREET THEATRE, founded in 2003, is an intimate off-Broadway theater with an enduring history of inviting some of the most exceptional, innovative and highly acclaimed theatrical experiences to its confines.

Generally a 200-seat black box theater, it has been fully reconfigured into a 130-seat, one and 1/2 story recreation of Harrington’s – London’s oldest operating pie and mash shop – where our production originated in 2014. Barrow Street Theatre is situated within Greenwich House, and with it, the larger West Village community that surrounds it.

ABOUT GREENWICH HOUSE

Located on the corner of Seventh Avenue South and Barrow Street, Greenwich House is one of NYC’s most treasured and long-running not-for-profits. Now 114-years-old, it opened its doors on Thanksgiving, 1902 with the mission to improve the living conditions among the predominately immigrant population in Greenwich Village. Throughout that period, and on a daily basis today, Greenwich House’s programs include a nursery school, after school programs and a senior center amongst many others.
