If you don't have several good cries during tonight's "NYPD Blue" (9:30, Channel 7), better check your pulse.

The heart-pounding resolution of a brilliant five-episode story line dealing with how Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits) will leave the popular series is enough to make a grown man do an Alanis Morissette.

You should thank me for warning you that this episode is so involving that many viewers may "unabashedly be bawling their eyes out." Producers Steven Bochco and David Milch sent along the tape of the episode, "Heart and Souls," to select critics, who were supposed to keep Simone's fate secret. (Naturally, some people broke the vow). I'll keep my promise. That said, knowing whether Simone lives or dies after heart transplant surgery shouldn't harm your enjoyment of this moving episode, which left this "Blue" fan limp. …
