Canon Inc. is a famous global Japanese firm that is known for its high-quality camera lenses, digital cameras, printers, photocopiers and camcorders. With its global headquarters in Ota, Tokyo, the company was founded in 1937 by Goro Yoshida, Takeshi Mitarai, Takeo Maeda and Saburo Uchida.

With total assets of ¥3.930 trillion as of 2011, Canon now employs 198,307 people across the world.

Shape and Colors of the Canon Logo

The parent company of Canon, Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, devised a new camera model in 1933 and it was named “Kwanon” after the Buddhist god of mercy. The prototype for the Canon logo depicted the image of Kwanon with various arms and flames.

The company was named “Canon” in 1935 following its huge worldwide success and recognition. The current version of the Canon logo is a powerful typographic logo featuring a slightly rounded custom typeface and the sweeping inward stroke of the  first letter – “C”.
