Motorola Logo
Motorola, Inc. was a popular American telecommunications corporation headquartered in Schaumburg, Illinois. It went bankrupt after losing $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009. The company then separated into two different business entities in early 2011, namely Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions. Motorola Solutions is regarded as the direct successor to Motorola, Inc. Motorola Mobility, on the other hand, was purchased by Google Inc. in August 2011 for a reported US$12.5 billion.
The company’s name “Motorola” was coined by the founder Paul V. Galvin in early-1930s for the car radio—linking “motor” (for motorcar) with “ola” (meaning sound).
