Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic to enter his sixth consecutive final at 2009 US Open 2009. Federer won a hard fought match playing long rallies to win the match 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-5. Novak Djokovic matched Federer playing long rallies, but failed to play brilliant shots like Federer did at crucial times. Federer fought off two break points in the third set when both the players are tied at four games a piece. They both made 33 unforced errors, but Federer had 49 winnings shots up against Djokovic's 31.
Federer will now face Juan Martin del Potro for his sixth consecutive US Open title. Del Potro earlier beat Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to reach his first US Open Grand Slam final.

Roger Federer is a five time defending champion at the US Open. His first win at the US Open Grand Slam came in 2004 when he defeated Former World No. 1 
Lleyton Hewitt 6-0, 7-6(3), 6-0 in straight sets. He hasn't lost at the US Open since his fourth round loss to 
David Nalbandian in 2003. Roger Federer reached his 22nd straight Grand Slam semi-final defeating 
Robin Soderling in the quarterfinal in four sets.
Novak Djokovic, seeded 4th, is a finalist at the 2007 US Open where he lost to Roger Federer. He reached the third round at the US Open in 2005 and 2006. Djokovic lost to Roger Federer in the semifinal of US Open 2008.
Roger Federer has a 8-4 head to head record against Novak Djokovic. Federer beat Djokovic in the fourth round at 2007 Australian Open, final at 2007 US Open and in the semifinal of 2008 US Open. However, Djokovic beat Federer in the semifinal at 2008 Australian Open. They last played at 2009 Cincinnati Masters which Federer won in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.
