DESIGN ELEMENTS, HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF KLM LOGO
Shape of the KLM Logo
The KLM logo was designed in 1961 by F.H.K. Henrion (1914-1990), a renowned German-born British graphic designer. The logo was, however, slightly modified in 1991 by Chris Ludlow of Henrion, Ludlow & Schmidt.
The iconic stylized crown in the KLM logo is made up of four circles, a line, and a plus. It adds a regal glamor to the emblem by “crowning” the company’s initials. The simplified and elegant treatment of the crown enhances visual distinctiveness, recognition and grandeur of the overall design.
The KLM logo is widely regarded as one of the most memorable and instantly recognizable airline logos in history.
