Sun Microsystems, Inc. was a leading American producer of computer components and computer software. Sun is credited with the creation of Java programming language, Unix operating system and the Network File System (NFS). The company was founded in 1982.
It was acquired by Oracle Corporation for US$7.4 billion in January 2010. In February 2010, Sun Microsystems, Inc. merged with Oracle USA, Inc. to form Oracle America, Inc.

The Sun logo is one of the most recognized logos in the computer industry. It was created by Vaughan Pratt, a emeritus professor in computer science at Stanford University. The logo comprises of four interleaved copies of the word “sun”.
The original version of the Sun logo had the sides pointed horizontally and vertically, but it was later overhauled so as to seem to stand on one corner.
