The sailing ship in the current version of the Manchester United logo is inspired by the Manchester City Council coat of arms, whereas the devil holding a pitch-fork originates from “The Red Devils”, the club’s famous nickname. Featuring a classy yet simple typeface, it was reportedly launched in early 1970s.
