DESIGN ELEMENTS, HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF METLIFE LOGO
Shape of the MetLife Logo
The MetLife logo was designed in 1964 by Don Ervin, the celebrated American graphic artist who also created corporate identities for such firms as Conoco, Transamerica, Cargill and Abbott Laboratories.
The MetLife logo features the letter “M” as its basic component, or both the letters “M” and “L”, depending on how it is taken. The dynamic star-like activity that takes place within the negative space brilliantly intensifies the visual distinctiveness of the logo. By cutting off the top of the letters, they look more legible, impressive, emphatic and forceful.
The MetLife logo is an enduring mark of quality which has outstandingly held its refreshing appearance for nearly five decades. It was heavily popularized by Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy in 1985.
Colors of the MetLife Logo
The use of blue color in the MetLife logo symbolizes excellence, reliability, approachability and prosperity.
Font of the MetLife Logo
The MetLife logo features the Futura Bold typeface.
